Sunday marked the first road-course race of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season, and while Dale Earnhardt Jr. may not typically favor tracks with both left and right turns, he had a very solid weekend at Sonoma Raceway in his No. 88 Axalta Chevrolet SS.
Contact from another competitor just 62 laps into Sunday’s 400-mile race at Michigan International Speedway ended Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s day early, leaving the No. 88 Axalta team with a 39th-place finish.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. fought his way to a runner-up finish in Monday’s Axalta 400 at Pocono Raceway, finishing just over a second behind race-winner Kurt Busch. It was the fourth second-place finish and sixth top-10 of the 2016 season for the driver of the No. 88 Axalta Chevrolet SS.
